The world mourns the loss of Nancy Mackenzie, a Latina icon who gave life to Marge Simpson in Latin America. Announced on social media this Monday, June 17, 2024, Nancy Mackenzie, who voiced Marge Simpson in Latin America until Season 15, passed away at the age of 81. Although the cause of her death remains unknown, sources close to Mackenzie revealed that she passed away on Friday, June 14. Her family waited until today to make the news public.  

Mackenzie’s passing marks the end of an era for many fans of “The Simpsons,” a show that enjoys immense popularity across Latin America. In fact, “The Simpsons” holds a special place in Latin American pop culture, with millions of viewers tuning in to watch the antics of Springfield’s famous family. 

Who Was Nancy Mackenzie

Born in Peru on December 6, 1942, Nancy Mackenzie began her career as a Peruvian folk dancer before transitioning to acting at 19, working in telenovelas. She later expanded her talents to television and theater acting, voice acting, and radio announcing. Her most notable role was as Marge Simpson in “The Simpsons,” a character beloved by many for its warmth and humor. 

Besides her iconic role as Marge, Mackenzie voiced numerous other memorable characters. She brought to life Sailor Galaxia in “Sailor Moon,” Daphne in “The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby-Doo,” Miss Keane in “The Powerpuff Girls,” Clarabelle from 1990 to 2016, Cruella de Vil between 1997 and 2003, and Winifred Sanderson in the movie “Hocus Pocus,” among many other notable roles. 

The Latin American entertainment industry is deeply affected by Mackenzie’s death. Among those mourning her loss is Humberto Vélez, the voice of Homer Simpson.  

You were, are and will be a fundamental part of the most important labor project of my work,” he wrote on an Instagram post.  

Nancy Mackenzie’s career in voice acting has left big shoes to fill. Her unique voice and talent brought joy to countless households, creating a lasting legacy. Her contributions to the industry were vast and impactful, touching the lives of many. Rest in peace, Nancy Mackenzie.
