Mr. Worldwide Armando Christian Perez, widely known as Pitbull, has secured the naming rights to Florida International University’s football stadium.

This unprecedented partnership, marking the first time a college athletics building has been named after a musician, underscores the deep connection between Perez and his Miami roots. The FIU board of trustees approved a five-year agreement in which Pitbull will contribute $1.2 million annually to the university. However, this is so on brand for Pitbull. In the past, he has invested in Miami by opening up a grade school to support his community.

Pitbull, also known as “Mr. 305” in honor of Miami’s first area code, exemplifies the city’s spirit. There’s no denying that renaming FIU Stadium to Pitbull Stadium captures this connection. Established in 1995, the stadium, with its 20,000-seat capacity, has been a vital part of FIU’s athletic program. The Panthers, FIU’s football team, will inaugurate Pitbull Stadium with a game against Central Michigan on September 7.

Mr. Worldwide will also compose an anthem for FIU, post about the university on social media twelve times a year, and attend an annual athletics fundraising event. He will have access to the stadium for ten days each year, and his vodka brand will be the preferred beverage distributed there too. Additionally, Mr. Worldwide will enjoy two reserved suites for all home football games. These elements highlight Pitbull’s dedication to leveraging his influence and resources to support and uplift his community.

It’s so good to see someone like Pitbull continue to show up for his hometown. Oftentimes, when public figures gain certain success, they tend to keep to themselves, which may be perceived as them forgetting about their roots. However, Pitbull made sure not to fall into this and has shown Miami that he will always be present for his original supporters.

Dale, Mr. 305, que tu puedes.
