Remember when “Despacito” was the most listened Latin song in Spotify’s history? Well, that’s not the case any longer as Bad Bunny and Chencho Corleone have dethroned Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. Is this the battle of the Boricuas?

These Puerto Rican urban artists have seized the spotlight with their popular track “Me Porto Bonito,” now reigning as Spotify’s most-streamed Latin song. Surpassing the iconic hit “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, this latest achievement marks a milestone in the genre’s history.

The Song ‘Me Porto Bonito’ Is Doing Exceptionally Well

With the latest figures from Spotify, “Me Porto Bonito,” released in 2022, has amassed an impressive 1.6 billion streams, edging past the previous record held by “Despacito” with 1.6 billion streams.

Featured on Bad Bunny’s Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning album “Un Verano Sin Ti,” “Me Porto Bonito” has garnered widespread acclaim. Notably, it was named Song of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), solidifying its status as a cultural phenomenon. Co-written by Puerto Rican reggaeton pioneer Master Joe, the song soared to the top of the Latin Airplay charts and secured the sixth spot among YouTube’s top songs of 2022.

Despite a brief hiatus from social media in 2023, Bad Bunny has returned to the spotlight in early 2024, while Chencho Corleone is currently embarked on a tour, with his latest stop in Peru.

Meanwhile, “Despacito” has left a soft spot in everyone’s heart, clinching multiple awards at the 2017 Latin Grammys, including Record of the Year, Best Urban Fusion/Performance, and Best Short Form Music Video.

In 2019, the song’s music video became the most-watched video on YouTube, reaching a staggering 6 billion views. Although it now sits in second place with over 8.5 billion views, surpassed by “Baby Shark Dance” with over 13.930 billion views, “Despacito” remains an enduring symbol of Latin music’s global impact.

Everyone Loves Latin Music

Though both songs are a vibe, let’s not forget how iconic the “Tú no ere’ bebecita, Tú ere’ bebesota.” It was empowering, it was life, it was magic – and it brought (even more) Latinas together, worldwide. Ah, what a time to be alive. Latin music is thriving, and we are enjoying it with everyone.
