Mexican Kayaker Sofía Reinoso Highlights Paris Olympic Village’s Cardboard Beds

As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approach, athletes are starting to arrive at the iconic Olympic Village. This complex, built every four years, houses athletes, coaches, and officials in 82 buildings with 7,200 specially decorated rooms. While this impressive setup should be the focus, social media users have zeroed in on one particular topic: the beds.

Sofía Reinoso Shows Off Her Bed

The beds at the 2024 Paris Olympics are made from cardboard, a fact that has drawn significant attention online. This isn’t the first time these unique beds have been featured; they were first introduced during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The athletes have been using these beds as content for their social media, sparking discussions and even some humorous posts.

One athlete who has shared her experience is Sofía Reinoso, a 27-year-old kayaker from Puebla, Mexico. Reinoso was the first member of the Mexican delegation to arrive in Paris, and she quickly took to Instagram to show her followers where the national team would be staying, the food they would be eating for the next 19 days, and the beds they would be sleeping on. Her video has already garnered over 241,000 likes and more than 3,000 comments in various languages.

Why Cardboard Beds at the Paris Olympic Village?

So, why are these beds made of cardboard? Originally implemented during the 2020 Olympics in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, some suggested that these “anti-sex beds” were designed to discourage athletes from engaging in intimate activities. However, many athletes have proven that the beds are sturdy and could withstand such activities, debunking this myth.

In reality, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) explained that the cardboard beds are part of an effort to minimize environmental impact. Each piece of the bed is recyclable, supporting the sustainability goals of the Olympics. After the Olympic Games, the 16,000 beds will be reused for the Paralympic Games, which are also set to take place in Paris in 2024.

Despite all of this, the focus should be on the athletes and the exciting events ahead. The Olympic Village is ready, and the athletes are gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable competition. With the Paris 2024 Olympics looming, the world eagerly anticipates the performances, records, and stories that will unfold.
