Miss Canada Responds to Miss Dominican Republic ‘Bad Girl’ Rumors

Miss Canada Responds to Miss Dominican Republic 'Bad Girl' Rumors

Ashley Callingbull, Miss Canada, has forcefully denied circulating allegations suggesting she made disparaging comments about Celinee Santos, Miss Dominican Republic, during the Miss Universe competition.

Reports had claimed that Callingbull referred to Santos as “a bad girl” with “no real friends.” These claims, according to Callingbull, are entirely unfounded and were fabricated by online fan pages. In her response, Callingbull labeled the accusations as “false” and distanced herself from the rumors that have gained traction on social media.

What Miss Canada Says

In her statement, Callingbull called out certain fan-driven pages for spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary drama. “Pageant fan pages create unnecessary fake posts and dramatics for entertainment,” she said. “It’s disappointing that we all worked so hard to be at Miss Universe, only for some fans to try to discredit contestants because of their placements.” Callingbull also stressed the importance of a more supportive and positive environment, urging, “Let’s live and be proud of what we accomplished.”

The controversy was allegedly created by a post on Gianpi Missology, a page dedicated to pageant news, which revived speculation surrounding Callingbull’s comments. The post referenced her apparent surprise that Santos did not make it to the top 12, a group that included representatives from Canada, Peru, Chile, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nigeria, Mexico, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Russia, Thailand, and Denmark. The 73rd edition of Miss Universe ultimately saw Denmark crowned as the winner.

Amid the speculation, another part of the Gianpi Missology post quoted Callingbull as stating that Santos was “physically beautiful” but lacked the “queen-like behavior behind the scenes.” The comment continued, saying, “You need to be beautiful inside and out,” a sentiment that has further fueled the backlash.

The Dark Side of Pageantry

The ongoing controversy highlights the darker side of the world of pageantry, where the pressures faced by contestants often extend far beyond their performances on stage. While these competitions are supposed to be about empowerment and celebration of beauty, Callingbull’s response serves as a critique of the toxic narratives and unrealistic standards that can taint the experiences of contestants.

Let’s hope everything is settled between both of these Miss Universe contestants.
