The Colombian queen, Karol G, has been crowned Billboard’s 2024 Woman of the Year.

The prestigious honor will be bestowed upon the reggaeton powerhouse at the upcoming Billboard Women in Music Awards presented by Marriott Bonvoy, set to take place on Wednesday, March 6, in Los Angeles. Karol G will also grace the stage for a special performance. Hopefully, she sings “Amargura.” The staff at BELatina loves this song.

Hosted by the acclaimed actor and producer Tracee Ellis Ross, the annual gala aims to celebrate music’s brightest talents, recognizing their contributions to the industry and their communities. Hannah Karp, Billboard’s editorial director, praised Karol G’s influence, stating, “With her immense talent, Karol G has created a movement for women across the globe due to her empowering lyrics and inspiring confidence.”

The Grand Impact of Karol G

Karol G’s meteoric rise to fame has been marked by numerous milestones. Just two years after the release of her breakthrough album KG0516 in 2021, she shattered records by becoming the first female artist to top the Billboard 200 with a Spanish-language album, thanks to the monumental success of “Mañana Será Bonito.” The album’s follow-up, “Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season),” made an equally impressive debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The accolades continued to pour in for Karol G, culminating in her first Grammy win on Sunday for Best Música Urbana Album with Mañana Será Bonito. Beyond her musical achievements, Karol G’s impact extends to the establishment of her record label, Bichota Records, and a distribution deal with Interscope. Additionally, she launched The Con Cora Foundation, dedicated to supporting women in various challenging circumstances, underscoring her commitment to social advocacy.

La Bichota joins a spectacular roster of past recipients of the Woman of the Year award, including industry titans such as SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Cardi B, and Taylor Swift.

Her recognition as Billboard’s Woman of the Year proves that Latinas can do anything they set their minds to.
