Christina Aguilera, five-time Grammy winner, ended 2024 with a powerful statement on self-acceptance, silencing critics of her appearance. On December 31, the Latina singer shared an Instagram video that juxtaposed harsh comments she received throughout the year with personal and professional highlights.

A Special Message from Christina Aguilera

“This year, I’m doing something a little different. It’s a reminder for everyone that each person is THEIR OWN STORY in their OWN LIFE. No one else can dictate who you are. No one deserves an explanation. I’m evolved enough to know that nothing is easy and no one is perfect. Everyone will judge you. It doesn’t matter WHAT you do. And/or what you don’t do,” Aguilera wrote in the caption.

The video included a motivational audio message emphasizing the importance of ignoring negativity and maintaining confidence. Aguilera, now 44, celebrated the often-difficult journey toward self-acceptance and praised those who continuously work on improving themselves. “Acceptance means accepting yourself first, and the difficult road it sometimes takes to get there. I celebrate everyone who takes the time to step forward each day to build the next version of themselves for the better. Allow yourselves kindness, patience, and respect,” she urged.

This is not the first time Aguilera has confronted societal standards regarding body image. In an August interview with Glamour, she reflected on the scrutiny she faced early in her career.

“When you’re a teenager, your body is very different from when you’re in your 20s. I started gaining weight, and that was unacceptable because they thought, ‘Oh, she’s getting fat.’ Then industry people told me, ‘They liked your body when you were a thin teenager,’” she recounted. The constant commentary eroded her self-esteem for years, but she eventually learned to rise above external opinions. “Now, I’m mature enough not to care what others think. It’s not my responsibility to bear the weight of their opinions,” she said.

Aguilera also spoke about her commitment to teaching her children, Max, 16, and Summer, 10, to embrace their bodies and reject hurtful judgments. “I’m so mature now that I don’t care about your opinion. I won’t take it on. It’s your responsibility to hold your own space. What others think of me is none of my business. For me, defining beauty means being comfortable in your own skin, and that’s a message I always try to instill in my kids,” she explained.

It is evident that Aguilera has risen above expectations and is now doing things her way.
