Barbie is once again leading the charge in celebrating influential women, kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month early with the release of their latest addition to the Inspiring Women line – a doll modeled after Chilean American author Isabel Allende. The new release, paired with Barbie’s first-ever global podcast, is part of a larger effort to highlight Allende’s literary achievements and contributions to social rights activism.

About the Isabel Allende Barbie Doll

The Isabel Allende Barbie is striking. Dressed in a bold red gown with a dramatic cape, the doll reflects the elegance and strength of the acclaimed writer. Gold earrings and classic red lips complete the look, making a statement as strong as Allende’s legacy. The attention to detail extends to the inclusion of her beloved dog Perla and a miniature version of her internationally acclaimed novel La Casa de los Espíritus, written while she was exiled during the Chilean military coup.

The creation of this doll is the result of a close collaboration between Mattel and Allende. The Barbie design team worked meticulously to ensure the doll captured the essence of the groundbreaking author, a process Mattel considers an honor. Beyond the physical doll, the partnership carries a deeper meaning. Through the Barbie Dream Gap Project, Barbie is making a donation to Girls Write Now, an organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of storytellers. Virtual events during Hispanic Heritage Month will connect girls with role models like Allende, fostering creativity and community.

Barbie Now Has a Podcast

The timing of this release coincides with the launch of The Barbie Podcast, an innovative new venture designed to engage young listeners with stories of female trailblazers. Each 15-minute episode introduces listeners to women who have made an impact across various fields. Allende will be featured in the second episode, scheduled for release on September 17. She shares her journey of becoming one of the most widely read Spanish-language authors and reflects on her role as an advocate for social justice.

In her own words, Allende emphasizes the transformative power of stories. “I have been telling stories since I was a child. Stories have incredible power, they challenge our minds and touch our hearts. They connect us to other people and teach us that we are not alone in the journey of life,” said Allende in an official statement. “I celebrate the Barbie brand’s initiative to inspire the next generation with the stories of unsung heroes. It’s an honor to be included in the Barbie Inspiring Women doll collection and to share my story in the Barbie Podcast. I want young kids to dream big. Everything is possible!”

Empowering Young Girls Everywhere

This push to inspire young girls is a hallmark of Barbie’s mission. The podcast will feature other remarkable guests, including U.S. figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi and actress and producer Debbie Allen. With a focus on empowering children to explore their potential, each episode will offer practical activities and discussions designed to foster leadership skills. The accompanying listener guides, created in partnership with Girls Leadership, will be available to download on the Barbie Dream Gap website.

Launching September 13, both the Isabel Allende doll and The Barbie Podcast set the stage for a new kind of engagement — one that goes beyond the product to impact the way young people connect with their role models. Barbie continues to elevate the stories of women from all walks of life, ensuring that the next generation can dream bigger and aim higher.

The Isabel Allende Barbie doll will be available for pre-sale on the Mattel Shop for $35, and the first season of The Barbie Podcast promises to be an enriching experience for families everywhere. Tune in on YouTube or the Barbie Dream Gap website to learn more.
