The VMAs are back, and they remain one of the last vestiges of MTV’s original vision, reminding us that the network was once all about the music. While MTV has shifted away from its musical roots, the VMAs continue to carry the torch, generating excitement year after year. This iconic event has gifted us with some of the most unforgettable moments in pop culture history, from Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera kissing Madonna to Shakira lighting up the stage with her biggest hits in 2023. She also made history by becoming the first Colombian to win the VMas Vanguard award. Seriously, if there’s one thing Latinas know how to do, it’s how to set the bar high.

This year, the VMAs promise to deliver more of those unforgettable moments, especially with performances from some of the most beloved Latina artists in the industry: Karol G, Camila Cabello, and Anitta.

A Glimpse of What to Expect at This Year’s VMAs

Karol G, the Colombian reggaeton sensation, has been making waves with her powerful performances. Her appearance at last year’s VMAs was nothing short of spectacular. But perhaps even more memorable was her performance at Viña del Mar in 2022, where she announced her album Mañana Será Bonito with the heartfelt song “Mientras Me Curo Del Cora.” Little did we know how transformative this era would be for her, propelling her into new heights of stardom.

Camila Cabello, a Cuban-American pop star, has also wowed audiences with her past performances. One standout was her 2019 VMA performance of “Señorita” with Shawn Mendes, which had fans going crazy over their undeniable chemistry. Another unforgettable moment came in 2018 when she took home the prestigious Video of the Year award for “Havana” and delivered a spellbinding performance of the chart-topping hit.

Then there’s Anitta, the Brazilian queen who has been dominating both the Latin and global music scenes. Recently, she teamed up with Peso Pluma for a performance of “Bellakeo,” which set the internet ablaze. Their initial performance at a TikTok in the Mix event sparked speculation when Peso Pluma appeared reluctant to dance with Anitta, leading many to believe it was due to his then-girlfriend Nicki Nicole. But after their relationship ended, Anitta and Peso Pluma hit the stage together again at Coachella, creating another viral moment.

With these Latina powerhouses on the roster, fans are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a night of unforgettable performances. Given their track records, we can expect nothing less than greatness from Karol G, Camila Cabello, and Anitta.

The VMAs will take place on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Make sure to tune in as these Latina artists light up the stage and remind us why the VMAs still matter in pop culture today.
