A rivalry that has reshaped women’s boxing reaches its decisive chapter on July 11. Latina boxer Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor will meet for the third time, returning to Madison Square Garden, where their first battle unfolded in 2022. The fight for Taylor’s undisputed super lightweight championship will be streamed live on Netflix at no additional cost, as announced by Most Valuable Promotions.

A Rivalry Defined by Grit and Relentless Action

Taylor has secured victories in both previous meetings, though neither came easily. Their first bout delivered an unrelenting exchange of over 1,000 punches, ending in a split-decision win for the Irish fighter. The rematch, held last November at AT&T Stadium in Texas, saw Taylor claim a unanimous decision. (Yet many people have their doubts.) Expectations for their third meeting remain high, given the intensity of their past encounters.

This fight will be part of the first-ever all-woman boxing card at Madison Square Garden. Their 2022 clash saw a divided crowd, with Puerto Rican fans rallying behind Serrano and Irish supporters cheering for Taylor. Demand for tickets surpassed initial estimates, forcing organizers to expand seating capacity until the venue was fully open.

Latina Fighter Amanda Serrano Calls Out Taylor Over Fight Format

The terms of the trilogy fight have already sparked contention. Serrano pushed for the bout to follow the same format as men’s title fights — 12 rounds of three minutes — but Taylor refused.

“I’m disappointed that Katie Taylor didn’t keep her word and make the trilogy 12 rounds of three minutes, the same as the men. This is a record payday for both of us, and we owed it to the fans to honor the handshake agreement we made. She didn’t. But make no mistake, every time we share the ring, it’s a war, and I know Friday, July 11, will be the best yet because I will finally get the official win I deserve,” said Serrano – what a reina.

Taylor, who has already beaten Serrano twice, was direct in her response. “I have a 2-0 record against Amanda, but obviously, this is a special rivalry that delivers every time we step into the ring, so I think it’s only right that we have the trilogy,” she said.

A Fight That Transcends Titles

Taylor became the undisputed lightweight champion at Madison Square Garden in 2019, solidifying her place among boxing’s elite. Three years later, she defended that status in a fight against Serrano that surpassed all expectations. Their rivalry has not only drawn global attention to women’s boxing but also pushed the sport into new territory.

The July 11 bout will be fought under the existing women’s boxing format of two-minute rounds. Serrano, a seven-division champion, has been an advocate for longer rounds and even vacated a featherweight title in pursuit of that goal. The clash between her relentless aggression and Taylor’s precision and endurance has already produced two unforgettable fights.

A trilogy demands a defining conclusion. The Madison Square Garden crowd will bear witness as two of boxing’s greatest settle the score once and for all.
