9 Probiotic Beets and Berries

Beet Berry Smoothie

Detoxify and fortify your GI with this raw, probiotic beet smoothie. It requires the extra but easy step of making your own beet kvass, a traditional fermented beet beverage made with filtered water, salt, and unpeeled beets. At average room temperature, the kvass takes approximately a week to ferment on your kitchen counter. Be warned when you open it: the contents will have built up lots of pressure while fermenting, so open carefully over a large bowl in your kitchen sink. Refrigerate unused portion of kvass until ready to use.

Beet Kvass Smoothie

½ cup beet kvass

½ cup fermented beets

Fresh lemon juice

1 cup frozen mixed berries

1 tbsp ground flax seed

Blend ingredients together with enough water until smooth and pourable.
