The prominent regional Mexican band led by siblings, Yahritza y Su Esencia, is in trouble. The group, who gained popularity due to their song “Fragil,” alongside Grupo Frontera, recently made some comments that didn’t sit well with its Mexican fan base.

Yahritza y Su Esencia consists of three immensely talented siblings: Yahritza Martínez (16), Armando Martínez (25), and Jairo Martínez (18). Their music has resonated with fans far and wide, showcasing their immense dedication and passion for regional Mexican music. Yet, they are all sitting in hot water at the moment.

In an interview held in Mexico, the sibling trio expressed certain things they don’t like about Mexico.

When asked about Mexico, Yahritza explained that she doesn’t like it when she wakes up.

“Yes, I like it, but I don’t like it when I wake up while I’m sleeping because you can hear the cars, police sirens, and everything, but yes, I do like it here; it’s beautiful,” the band’s lead singer said.

The eldest, Armando, gave an even more eyebrow-raising comment he said that the food in Washington State is better than Mexico.

“Well, to be honest, I don’t really like the food here much. I prefer the food where we live, over in Washington; they season it with spices that give it a kick and it tastes good,” he said.

Meanwhile, Jairo disclosed that he is a picky eater.

“For me, it’s also the food (that I don’t like) because I am quite picky, and well, I mostly eat chicken; like wings without chili, I don’t like any of that.”

These remarks have left some questioning the band’s connection to their cultural roots and culinary heritage. Now, they are faced with heavy criticism and on the verge of being “canceled.” This isn’t surprising considering that the larger bulk of their following is from Mexico.

Infobae delved further into the controversy surrounding Yahritza y Su Esencia’s food preferences, emphasizing that some viewed the comments as insensitive and disrespectful to Mexican cuisine and culture.

However, amidst the chaos, Yahritza took to TikTok Live to address the issue head-on. In a candid response, she clarified that she does love and appreciate for Mexico. Still, she didn’t shy away from telling those who couldn’t support her to leave, standing firm in her commitment to staying true to herself.

While some have sought to “cancel” the band amid the controversy, it’s crucial to recognize the power of learning and growth. Yahritza y Su Esencia is composed of three young and inexperienced individuals. They may also not have someone giving them proper media training, which is what was lacking in the aforementioned interview.

It’s too soon to say what’s to happen with Yahritza y Su Esencia. As for now, may this be a reminder to everyone that thinking before speaking is important.
