Mexico has made history. A drag queen recently reported the news via one of Mexico’s news stations, Canal Once.

On June 24th, Amanda, the drag personality played by Guillermo Barraza, appeared on “Cada Hora a la Hora,” which is a TV segment from Canal Once. This was an idea that Barraza had presented to his boss before and, to his disbelief, it was approved in time to celebrate Pride month. Barraza is from Culiacán, Sinaloa; he is formally trained as journalist.

Barraza’s drag character has made a name for herself in the world of drag. However, her recent foray into the realm of news broadcasting has turned heads and sparked conversations about inclusivity and diversity in the media landscape.

Canal Once, a prominent Mexican television network, made the groundbreaking decision to bring Amanda on board as a news presenter. This bold move reflects the network’s commitment to embracing a more inclusive and progressive approach to journalism. By giving Amanda a platform to deliver news, Canal Once aims to challenge societal norms and promote acceptance and understanding.

Amanda’s rise to fame has been met with enthusiasm and support from viewers and the LGBTQ+ community. Her presence on-screen brings a fresh perspective to news reporting, injecting charisma and authenticity into each segment. With her distinct style and flair, Amanda effortlessly bridges the gap between entertainment and information, captivating audiences with her unique blend of charisma and credibility.

Striving For Inclusivity Is Not a Drag After All

The decision to introduce Amanda as a news reporter has not come without its share of criticism. Some skeptics argue that her presence may detract from the seriousness and credibility of the news. However, Amanda’s advocates emphasize the importance of representation and breaking down barriers in an industry that has long been dominated by a particular archetype.

Amanda’s debut as a news anchor has sparked a larger conversation about the need for diversity in media representation. Telediario reports that her presence on-screen has resonated with viewers, who appreciate her ability to communicate important news while staying true to her authentic self.

With her vibrant personality, fierce style, and unwavering confidence, Amanda is challenging stereotypes and redefining the traditional image of a news anchor.
