Latina Film Producer, Victoria Alonso, Exits the Marvel Cinematic Universe After Nearly Two Decades

The Argentine film producer, Victoria Alonso, has exited the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She had been with the company for 17 years.

Alonso, 57, joined the MCU in 2006 as chief of visual effects and postproduction. Her impact on Marvel was felt almost instantaneously. She even helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a co-producer in 2008’s Iron Man. La Argentina also co-produced Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), and Captain America: The First Avenger (2012). In 2012, she was promoted to be the executive producer of one of the highest-grossing Marvel films in its history, The Avengers (2012).

After proving her enviable skillset to the MCU, including her work on Disney+ tv series’, she was named president of physical and postproduction, visual effects, and animation production. Her vision remained untouched all these years. In fact, she was the one who fought to bring projects such as Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel to fruition.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alonso’s exit from the MCU is unclear, but it is a known fact that she left last Friday.

Her illustrious career with MCU led her to be one of the most recognizable Latinas in the United States. The Argentine film producer was named one of People en Español magazine’s “Most Influential Hispanic Women” in 2019 and 2020. She was also featured on numerous lists where influential women were mentioned.

What are people saying about Victoria Alonso’s departure from the MCU?

As expected, however, her abrupt departure has caused a stir online. Though a lot of people are saddened by the news considering she was a key proponent to increase diversity in the MCU, some are relieved. Unfortunately, there are various allegations claiming that Alonso was instrumental in creating a toxic workplace environment.

A senior reporter for Vulture and New York Magazine, Chris Lee, tweeted out a thread with some of these allegations.

“If she likes you, you’re going to get work and you’re going to move up in the industry. If you have pissed her off in any way, you’re going to get frozen out,” one of Lee’s tweets read.
